4.25.24: Extravagance

is the feeling of looking up
at all these shoe boxes like 
a cardboard menagerie of 
coffins kept in the sun 
perfumed catacomb of a
closet— a plethora of pairs 
stacked like mementos from 
bodies missing in action; 
it is the sensation of wanting, 
the way a child wants to not 
receive parental rebukes in 
response to greed, which at 
present is a false need, or a 
genuine wishing for more 
feet in order to wear more
shoes.
